OVERVIEW:

Join BE September 2025 for a truly epic and hardcore hike & bike in Colorado! This 14 day journey takes us to the San Juan towns of Montrose, Lake City, and Silverton as we ride 70 miles on the national scenic backcountry byway called the “Alpine Loop.”

On this 14-day journey, you’ll get the chance to hike two mountains over 14,000’, sleep in the famous American Basin, take much deserved zero days in the old west mining towns of Siverton and Lake City, ride over the 12,000’ passes of Cinnamon and Engineer, ride by and explore seven ghost towns, and hike to alpine lakes and waterfall while the aspens are changing into their fall colors!

This all-inclusive, self-supported 14-day journey consist of nine active days and five rest days. Shuttles to-and-from the airport is included. All meals on trail and at camp are included. Bikepacking gear and a mountain bike can be included at checkout!

Welcome to Colorado! BE will meet you at the Montrose airport by 3:00pm. From there, we’ll head to the hotel for our team welcome dinner and itinerary overview. Let the Good Life commence! Included meals = Dinner. Accommodation = Hotel. Miles = 0.

Tuesday, Day 2: Lake City Rest & Prep!

Good first morning! Today we drive two hours to the small mountain town of Lake City. Here, we’ll check into our cabin, prep our gear and our food, and explore the town! Included meals = Breakfast. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 0.

Wednesday, Day 3: Off We Go!

Let’s do this! Post-breakfast we’ll pack up and ride our first miles out of town and along Lake San Cristobal; the second largest natural lake in Colorado! Today is mostly flat as we warm up our bodies! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~10 on the bike.

Thursday, Day 4: Grizzly Gulch!

Welcome to our first full day on trail! Today we wake up on the alpine loop and we fall asleep on the alpine loop! Today we enter rougher roads on our mountain bikes as we ride seven miles to Grizzly Gulch! We’re really in it now! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~7 on the bike.

Friday, Day 5: Redcloud Peak!

This is a Hike & Bike and today you get to hike if you want! OR, take a rest day - your choice! If hiking a mountain sounds good to you, join BE as we hike 4.5 miles to the 14,000’ Redcloud Peak! Tonight we sleep again at Grizzly Gulch. Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~9 on the feet.

Saturday, Day 6: Cooper Lake and American Basin!

Today we do a little bit of hike and a little bit of bike! En route to the famous American Basin, we’ll hike to the alpine lake of Cooper Lake! Tonight, we’ll sleep in the American Basin. This right here makes everything worth it! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = 4 on the bike; 7.5 on the feet.

Sunday, Day 7: Handies Peak!

Good leisure morning! Sleep in, sip that coffee, and soak up those views! You can rest today or you can hike your second 14,000’ mountain - Handies Peak! You can even hike to the most photographed lake in America - Sloan Lake. Choose your own adventure today! Tonight we sleep again in the American Basin. Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~5 on the feet.

Monday, Day 8: Cinnamons Pass to Silverton!

GOOD MORNING! Today is an exciting day as we cycle over our first 12,000’ pass! From camp at the American Basin, we’ll ride 2.5 miles to Cinnamons Pass for unclose and personal views of the Cinnamon Mountains 365 degree views of the San Juans. Post-pass, we’ll descend 3.5 miles to our lunch spot at Grouse Gulch near Animas Forks. After a celebratory lunch, we’ll finish up 11 more miles on the bike into the old mining town of Silverton! Included meals = Breakfast & Lunch. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = ~17 on the bike.

Tuesday, Day 9: Zero Day in Silverton!

Welcome to Silverton! Silverton is a mega rad town and we want you to experience it so today we wake in Silverton and fall asleep in SIlverton. Today we pull ZERO miles on our bike and our feet! Congratulations on your zero day, you deserve it! Included meals = Breakfast. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 0.

Wednesday, Day 10: Grouse Gulch!

Alright, we are halfway around our loop! Let’s get goin! Today, we say goodbye to Silverton as we ride 11 miles out of town to sleep at Grouse Gulch. Today is mostly flat to get our legs back in motion! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~11 on the bike.

Thursday, Day 11: Engineer Pass!

Good EARLY morning! Today is our LAST day of uphill and we have a descent bit of it so we’re going to have an alpine start on this alpine loop! This morning will consist of a 2,100’ elevation gain over 6 miles! Once we top out on Engineer Pass, we’ll celebrate with lunch then descend 8 epic miles to camp near Whitmore Waterfalls! This was an epic day! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~14 on the bike.

Friday, Day 12: Whitmore Falls to Lake City!

Happy last day on trail! This is a big day in and of itself because today you complete the Alpine Loop, a national scenic backcountry byway! We’ll start our morning hiking just 200’ to Whitmore Falls overlook and then descend our final 10.5 miles into Lake City. Along the way, we’ll grab some ice cream at the ghost town of Capitol City; named because its founder had dreams for it to be Colorado’s capital city. We’ll also get spoiled with the sights and sounds of Henson Creek because our entire descent parallels this beautiful rushing river. Once in town, we’ll check into our Lake City cabins and treat ourselves to a hot shower, celebratory dinner, and comfy bed. CONGRATULATIONS!!! The Included meals = Breakfast and Lunch. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = ~10.5 on the bike.

Saturday, Day 13: Zero Day in Lake City!

Good leisure morning! Sleep in, sip coffee, take a walk by the river, explore town, and live The Good Life! Today we rest and congratulate ourselves! The only thing on the agenda today is returning bikes and gear and enjoying a final team dinner. Included meals = Breakfast & Dinner. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 0.

Sunday, Day 14: Montrose Departure!

It’s departure day! At 11:00am, we’ll drive back to Montrose Regional Airport, where it all began! Be sure to book your departing flight for no earlier than 2:00pm! CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY:

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 90+ days before the start date will be refunded the total amount minus processing fees and the $500 non-refundable deposit.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 30 to 90 days before the start state will be refunded half the total amount minus processing fees.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey less than 30 days before the start date will not be refunded.

  • Participants who choose to leave an active journey for any reason are not entitled to a refund. Due to the nature and heavy costs of operating permits, BE must adhere to the above itinerary and refund policy.

Tuesday, Day 9: Zero Day in Silverton!

Welcome to Silverton! Silverton is a mega rad town and we want you to experience it so today we wake in Silverton and fall asleep in SIlverton. Today we pull ZERO miles on our bike and our feet! Congratulations on your zero day, you deserve it! Included meals = Breakfast. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 0.

Wednesday, Day 10: Grouse Gulch!

Alright, we are halfway around our loop! Let’s get goin! Today, we say goodbye to Silverton as we ride 11 miles out of town to sleep at Grouse Gulch. Today is mostly flat to get our legs back in motion! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~11 on the bike.

Thursday, Day 11: Engineer Pass!

Good EARLY morning! Today is our LAST day of uphill and we have a descent bit of it so we’re going to have an alpine start on this alpine loop! This morning will consist of a 2,100’ elevation gain over 6 miles! Once we top out on Engineer Pass, we’ll celebrate with lunch then descend 8 epic miles to camp near Whitmore Waterfalls! This was an epic day! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = ~14 on the bike.

Friday, Day 12: Whitmore Falls to Lake City!

Happy last day on trail! This is a big day in and of itself because today you complete the Alpine Loop, a national scenic backcountry byway! We’ll start our morning hiking just 200’ to Whitmore Falls overlook and then descend our final 10.5 miles into Lake City. Along the way, we’ll grab some ice cream at the ghost town of Capitol City; named because its founder had dreams for it to be Colorado’s capital city. We’ll also get spoiled with the sights and sounds of Henson Creek because our entire descent parallels this beautiful rushing river. Once in town, we’ll check into our Lake City cabins and treat ourselves to a hot shower, celebratory dinner, and comfy bed. CONGRATULATIONS!!! The Included meals = Breakfast and Lunch. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = ~10.5 on the bike.

Saturday, Day 13: Zero Day in Lake City!

Good leisure morning! Sleep in, sip coffee, take a walk by the river, explore town, and live The Good Life! Today we rest and congratulate ourselves! The only thing on the agenda today is returning bikes and gear and enjoying a final team dinner. Included meals = Breakfast & Dinner. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 0.

Sunday, Day 14: Montrose Departure!

It’s departure day! At 11:00am, we’ll drive back to Montrose Regional Airport, where it all began! Be sure to book your departing flight for no earlier than 2:00pm! LOGISTICS:

  • Flying? BE will meet you at Montrose Regional Airport by 3:00pm on Day 1.

  • Driving? Meet BE at our Montrose hotel by 4:00pm on Day 1.

  • Book your departing flight for no earlier than 2:00pm on Day 14!

DEPOSITS & PAYMENT PLANS:

  • A $500 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot is welcomed at checkout! After placing your deposit, BE will email you about your preferred payment plan! This deposit is applied to the overall balance. No worries, there’s no interest or added fees. BE Simple!

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY:

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 90+ days before the start date will be refunded the total amount minus processing fees and the $500 non-refundable deposit.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 30 to 90 days before the start state will be refunded half the total amount minus processing fees.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey less than 30 days before the start date will not be refunded.

  • Participants who choose to leave an active journey for any reason are not entitled to a refund. Due to the nature and heavy costs of operating permits, BE must adhere to the above itinerary and refund policy.

FINE PRINT:

Above itinerary is subject to change per guide’s discretion. Although beginning & end points do not change, daily mileages may be manipulated to better meet groups needs.
